How to Save Snapchat Videos or Snaps of Your Own Updates?
What if you need to store or record your own snap updates? How can you save?
Well, it is not a big deal. Here’s what you have to do:
- Just as you would record and share a snap, proceed to record it. Once, you are done recording, you will get the option to share it.
- Do note, you don’t have to share this now – so look for the download button on the bottom-left side of the screen (as shown in the image above). It will be a down-arrow sign.
- Now, just tap on it to save the Snapchat video. You can choose to save it only in the memories or both in your memories (and your local storage) You’re done, that’s it!
It wasn’t too hard, right? Just three steps to saving your own Snapchat videos.
However, now comes the tricky part -where to find the videos you just saved?
How to Find Your Saved Snaps?
When you save the snap you were sending – it gets stored on your device (and on your account).
Don’t worry, you do not have to make a mess in the file manager to find the saved video. You can access it directly on the Snapchat app itself.
You just need to go to the memories section to find them. While recording a video or on the main screen, you will find an icon with “two cards“.
That is the icon you are looking for to access your memories. The saved snaps will appear there which you can access any number of times (unlike a snap from a friend).
So, now moving on to the toughest question – how to save Snapchat videos that someone else sent you?
Let’s take a look if we have a solution.

How to Save Snapchat Videos From Your Friends?
Just like you would expect privacy – your friends would not want their snaps to be saved by someone else or exploited.
Hence, Snapchat does not give any official feature to be able to save others snaps on your phone.
But, that does not mean you can’t do that. There are a few workarounds – however, you will have to take note of some important things:
- If you try to take a screenshot of a snap, your friends will be notified about it.
- Just because officially there’s no option to save someone else’s snap – you should not do it, unless it’s something for casual fun (and not exploiting the workaround in a bad way).
If you consider the things I mentioned now, you can now try the potential solutions to save Snapchat videos to your smartphone.
Avoid 3rd Party Applications for Saving Snapchat Videos
Before we suggest the potential solutions, we should warn you to avoid applications that claim to give you the ability to save Snapchat videos.
Those applications are usually redundant that does nothing. Or, in some cases, they just want to collect your data.
So, we recommend better workarounds here:
Methods to Save Snapchat Videos to Your Phone
There are two possible ways in which you can get the job done on iOS and Android. Here they are:
Use In-built Screen Recording to Save Snaps on iPhone
If you are an iOS user and have an iPhone/iPad with you, it is quite easy to record the screen to save a snap.
Do note that we assume that you haven’t opened the snap yet (or it hasn’t expired).
If that is the case, you can simply swipe up on your iPhone to observe the recording button as shown in the image above. Once, you see it, you just need to tap on it to start recording.
And, then after it starts recording, feel free to launch the Snapchat app and open the story/snap you want to save.
After you are done, stop the recording to save the video on your iPhone.
So, this is a workaround for iOS devices to have a copy of the snaps. You can further utilize a video editor on your PC or mobile to make changes (or crop the video to contain the snap).

Use Screen Recorder Apps on Android to Record Snaps
Unfortunately, Android does not offer a native screen recording feature. So, you will have to utilize the screen recording applications available on the Play Store.
Fret not, we won’t leave you hanging to explore the apps yourself, we already have a recommendation for you – AZ Screen Record.
AZ Screen Record application is an incredibly useful application and trustworthy tool that has been existing on the Play Store for years now.
It does include in-app advertisements that might be annoying to some. So, if you want to regularly use the app, you should consider making an in-app purchase to get rid of the advertisements.
It should be fairly easy to start using the app to recording your screen.
Simply launch the recorder and start recording it. You may tweak the settings as per your requirements – but that is not really necessary.
Use Another Smartphone to Record Snaps
This is definitely not a convenient option. However, if nothing works out for you, just grab another device and use the camera app to record the snap while playing it on your primary device.
You can go for this – if it’s something really urgent and you want proof of the story and snap.
Otherwise, you should be just fine with the screen recording solutions that I mentioned above.
Snapchat videos play an important role in the social media app. If it is your story, you can save it before sharing it. But, if you have already shared it – you may not be able to save it unless you have it in your stories.
For saving a Snapchat video of another user, you have no legit way to do that. So, if it is really required, you can utilize a screen recorder app on Android or the default screen recording tool on iOS to make a video of the Snapchat app to have a copy of the snap.
We will make sure to update the article if there’s a significant change in the Snapchat app (or if there’s a new solution). If you have a suggestion or need help recording a video on Snapchat, let us know in the comments down below.
